The framework for 21st century learning "presents a holistic view of 21st century teaching and learning that combines a discrete focus on 21st century student outcomes (a blending of specific skills, content knowledge, expertise and literacies) with innovative support systems to help students master the multi-dimensional abilities required of them in the 21st century" (Partnership for 21st Century Skills, 2004).  This definition includes one idea that really resonates with me.  That idea is expressed in the phrase "focus on 21st century skills."  I believe that this is a reference to integrating technology and new literacy into more traditional curriculum.  The fact that technology and new literacy needs to be worked in curriculum is a reflection of the way our society currently opperates.  It is necessary for schools to reflect the current trends in society so that students are prepared to participate in the global community.  The idea that the classroom should reflect society is an idea that began with John Dewey.  This idea is modernized in 21st century learning as technology, creativity, and innovation and integrated into curriculums in the 21st century (Partnership for 21st Century Skills).

The NETS for students and teachers are a set of technology standards are a road map for teaching the literacy of technology.  These standards can be integrated across all subject areas in a curriculum so that teachers and students have the opportunity to practice weaving technology into the learning process.  For example, the student NETS standard for this assignment
